PROJECT 04: STANDALONE COMMUNITY

Project four can be divided into four parts. They are master model and site analysis, group layout and layout model, individual unit and report. In my opinion, this is the project which can practise all the aspects. From an urban area to a building, from a building to an interior space., this project seems include all these aspects.

For me, this project is more related to urban and regional planning. However, from planning, when zoom in, more details are considered. Such as building and interior, it combined all these things together. I learned how to use scale and how to make models by using different types of materials.

In order to analyse the site, we studied LCP and create group lay out and divided the mater model into 87 lots. Everyone has their own site. This project combines team work and individual work together. It can help me to know how to deal with team work and individual work at the same time. By analysing the small part of the site, I add according to project 02. I realize that this project is very practical. It shows the professional information by using the place in our real life. We can see the place, we can go there and measure the size of trees, lights and the facilities. I can feel that the thing I do is real, the task is from the reality. The aim of group lay out is to add our design on the site, for the individual unit, I analyse the location of my place and designed a residential house. What I learned the most from the individual work is how to arrange the room and I learned the size of furniture. The group work is more about cooperation and the individual part is testing the personal skill and how to design things by law. .



This project helps me to know the principle of site plan and the organisation stage of the design process. When we analyse a place, we should know not only the location but also all the other related aspects. It is compulsory to free mind, understand the suitability for development, natural system, eco-system and limitation, reference site and the assess suitability for development. What’s more, the organisation stage of the design process is also necessary to be considered. To involve the collection of use, size, gradient and zoning access etc. This project also helps me to increase the ability to demonstrate understanding of basic design principles and communicate ideas in set of presentation drawings or guidelines in planning and designing buildings. I am able to produce design of the proposed development and produce a complete set of presentation drawings and models."

PROJECT 03: THE ENVELOP/SHELL/SKIN--GARDEN FOLLY

A shell, envelope or a skin is used to protect the private space. On one hand, it’ used for hiding the private things. On the other hand, it can be seen as the outside of the object. So it maintains the aesthetic aspects. However, a garden folly is a forbidden corner which is designed, originally, as a private folly. To combine these two things, I get the main idea of my design for this project.
In this project, the garden folly I designed is for holding party. The location of my garden is near the beach or located in the beach resort. In my design, the shape of the structure is different. I use an O structure, but it shaped like a elliptic. In this structure, I put tables, chairs in it. In order to consider about the entrance and the exit, I put them in different position. The do not face each other directly. Trees and flowers are like natural shelter or so called skin of this garden. I designed a glass wall to support the water to create a water feature. It can be called waterfall. Waterfall, act as a part of the shelter always draw the eye. The sound of water splashing is soothing and watching a waterfall can be as mesmerizing as watching the fire in our fire pit. If our home is our haven, a garden pond might be just right. So, in a garden folly, the garden pond is compulsory. In addition to this, fish and plants are a delight and add a whole new aspect to the landscape.

In this project, I also learned the measurement of furniture, stairs, trees and other objects besides the design concept. It helps me to device conceptual design ideas using bubble diagram and effectively integration of structures and materials. What’s more, I realize that use software such as sketch up can help me to explain and show my works conveniently. Through this project, I improved a lot.

PROJECT 02 : ONE FUNCTION SPACE--DREAM LAND

Nowadays, people are busy with their work and study. They need a quiet place to relax and enjoy. The specific purpose of my design is to create a function space which is both comfortable and enjoyable. People need relax and have a good rest just one reason is that there are a lot of noisy places around us. For example, the place near the road, hospital, somewhere near factory etc. what’s more, people need a place to relieve stress and enjoy the process of rest. So I designed a function space where people can read books, search the internet, drink beverage, and enjoy the scenery.








There are two modules. Each module’s space is 2400mm*2400mm*2400mm. one of the module have one book shelf, One one-half book shelf and a flat form with a desk on it. When people go up to the flat form they will feel that they have entered a private space. No one can disturb them and they can have a good rest.



In order To support the main function space, I designed a space for support activity. In that space I put a mini bar, two bar chairs and a round hanging chair. Bar uses a mirror-type design concept, modeling unique, extending from the roof to the ground, it can help to stretch space, making three-dimensional sense of space more productive. The style of the hanging chair is novel and free of swing. the whole function space can be seen as an internal function space, which means it can be seen as a part of a house.




These two spaces can satisfy different requirements. It also can be used separately or be put in a quiet place such as hotel and book store.

PROJECT 01: PET & HOME PARADISE ISLAND

From ancient times, humans are not apart from animals. There are many kinds of animals living around us. Many people adopt them as their pets. In a sense, that is due to the care of animals. However, except eating, hunting and watching them in the zoo, we human beings need to protect them. One way to achieve this goal is to know their living habits. By using this method, we can know them better, love them better and try out best to protect them.
Fortunately, through this project, I have a chance to adopt an animal personally. It will help us to have a better understanding of the importance of animals and achieve the ability to undertake a simple planning project. What’s more, it can be related to landscape design and design principles.


I adopt two red-eared turtle as my pets. Red ear turtle like swimming, climb and bask. According to the habitat of red eared turtle, I use net with sharp wood to catch them, additionally, I use stone. The first step is to connect wood and nets. Then stick the wood into water. It could be the downstream direction so that when the turtle swimming in the water will be trapped in the net.

In order to create a place for the turtle to stay, I try my best to create an environment which can satisfy its needs. Spatial perception is very important. In addition to this, function zone and colour are also compulsory to be considered about. It can help to make better product. I prefer to use blue and white. I can make the turtles feel cool. I also use plastic to create a swimming pool so that the turtle can take a bath. The depth of water in the swimming pool is higher than the place where has white stone. The big shell is prepared for them to bask. I also put turtle stick on is so that the stick will not touch the water. Besides these points, I add some small things such as string of beads on the top of the fish tank. It looks like waves. It can show the dynamic aspect of the design concept.
